The new 24,000 sf Chemistry and Biotechnology building will provide state-of-the-art STEM instructional space for 21st century learning. The facility features modern chemistry labs and flexible 40-person classrooms, tailored to support a dynamic educational environment.

Sustainability was a core focus in the building’s design. To support energy efficiency, the building features energy-saving SafeGuard™ fume hoods, equipped with Teflon-coated airfoils and Automatic Sash Operator 2 Plus systems. These advanced systems help to minimize energy consumption by automatically adjusting the sash, improving safety, and reducing the need for excessive ventilation. Additionally, a custom SafeGuard™ fume hood with a rear pass-through for waste disposal was incorporated, ensuring that hazardous materials are efficiently managed in a safe and sustainable manner.

To foster collaboration and interaction, the design team created custom wood student workstations and instructor stations, which reflect the functional needs of the STEM learning environment. These workstations promote student engagement, group work, and hands-on learning experiences.

The lab layout is highly adaptable, ensuring flexibility for future modifications as educational needs evolve. This adaptability, combined with sustainable design features, provides a cutting-edge space for STEM education, empowering future generations of scientists and innovators.
