Inspired by the concept of movement, this 235,000 SF project serves as the new, seven-story headquarters for a late-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing small molecule drug candidates for the potential treatment of debilitating diseases characterized by compromised muscle function. As their work revolves around muscle and movement, the design parti was to express motion throughout their headquarters with curved ceilings, radiused corners and a bright central stair. The labs and office space are centered around collaboration with views of San Francisco Bay.

The open laboratory design emphasizes a seamless flow of movement, prioritizing mobility and efficiency. By incorporating our Optima™ bench systems throughout the lab, mottLAB West, Inc. collaborated closely with the design team to customize the space to meet the specific needs of the research and researchers. Key modifications included widening the vertical posts on the benches to provide additional space for services, ensuring adequate clearance for countertop equipment, and reengineering the ceiling service panels to optimize service distribution to the benches.

This project also marked a significant milestone as it was the first in California to implement the Light Curtain and Auto-Sash controls in compliance with the state's new building codes. The laboratory is equipped with Mott Pro Series Hoods, each featuring the latest sash control technology. These hoods range in size from 4-foot-wide bench-top models to 10-inch floor-mounted custom fume hoods.

mottLAB West continues its partnership with Cytokinetics, providing additional casework and fume hoods to support the ongoing expansion and evolution of their laboratory facilities.
