Mott, along with our dealer New England Lab, are honored to be the laboratory furniture and fume hood supplier for The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU APL), which was one of only two projects worldwide to be honored in the SEFA Labs, Lab of the Year awards program. The SEFA Lab of the Year Award is a prestigious recognition and is widely regarded as the gold standard in laboratory design.
Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU APL) is truly at the forefront of innovation, and Building 201 houses the Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD). REDD is ALP’s research engine, a powerhouse of scientific thinking applied engineering, and advanced fabrication. Its team of more than 650 researchers is recognized as one of the most dynamic and influential research groups in the world.
Flexible & Reconfigurable
The 263,000-square-foot facility, known as Building 201, was designed to spark excitement and collaboration with lab spaces that are open, adaptable, and collocated with focus areas.
Its open, highly flexible and reconfigurable floor plan allows the facility to meet researchers’ changing needs and includes more than 90,000 square feet of specialized laboratory space.
With the emphasis on flexibility and reconfigurability in the design of JHU APL’s laboratory space, the team utilized custom Optima™ core systems and Optima™ benches, both with EdgeWave™ LED task lighting, along with fully welded height adjustable tables, painted steel cabinets with White Oak fronts, White Oak casework and furniture, specialty storage cabinets, SafeGuard™ fume hoods, and custom ceiling service panels.
